USA Cycling announced today the US Team for the UCI 2012 Pan American Road and Track Championships. Local NorCal stand out Beth Newell (Now Cycling – NOW and Novartis for MS) earns a place to compete on the track and road. The Pan American Championships take place in Mar del Plata, Argentina from 5 to 16 March, 2012.
Beth Newell said she was very excited for the opportunity and to represent the US for her first time, “I don’t know what to expect and will take everything as it comes.” Although Newell has not yet set any specific goals, she expects the whole affair to be a great learning experience; from simply warming up to understanding the competition.
Also named on the Women’s Track team are Elizabeth Carlson (Black Dog Pro Cycling Team), Dana Feiss (Kutztown University of Pennsylvania), Cari Higgins (Exergy TWENTY 12), and Jennifer Valente (Exergy TWENTY 12). Newell will contest the omnium. The Women’s Road team will consist of Newell and Amber Neben (HTC-Highroad), Coryn Rivera (Exergy TWENTY 12), and Shelley Olds (AA Drink). Olds competed mostly in Europe in 2011 but Newell considers the 2010 USA Cycling National Criterium Champion a member of the NorCal sorority.
